Exm. º Mr Director of the Portuguese Journal of Clinical Generally The RPCG published in the May / June 2010, an article of continuous quality improvement entitled "Study POIS (prevention of osteoporosis in the elderly ") .1 Although the authors mention the purpose of" assessing and ensuring quality ", I assume that purport to describe the experience of a cycle of continuous quality improvement in prescribing calcium and vitamin D in elderly for the prevention of osteoporosis. Indeed, in practice it is not correct to speak of "quality assurance" but before "quality improvement" since the "guarantee" very hard to do. The assessment of quality assumes that prescribing calcium and vitamin D prevent primary osteoporosis in the elderly and thus fractures of the femoral neck and spine. Invoke as justification for this procedure, generalizing the elderly, the fact that the fractures in the elderly are frequent and with high morbidity and mortality and a circular DGS2 where there is demonstrated that the advocates basing it more on opinion than on evidence.Downloads
