Essential fatty acids enriched with vitamins A and E and linoleic acid as a dressing for chronic ulcers

Introduction: have been used as topic treatment in chronic wounds, however few studies report it. Aim: The aim of the present study was to emphasise the use of these substances in chronic wounds. Case: Two cases of chronic wounds are reported, one concerning a patient with diabetic foot and other concerning a patient with venous ulcer. Wounds were mechanicaly or chemicaly cleaned before dressings were applied. Enriched fatty acids were used as topic treatment concealed with gauze. Tolerance to the dressing, patient reported pain and clinical aspects of the wounds were evaluated. Discussion: The substances allowed for moisty wounds, good tolerance to dressings and pain, maintaining wound integrity during dressing renewall. Fatty acids represent a good option for cleaned wounds, allowing good tolerance and easy maintenance.Downloads
