The new formulations of oral contraceptives have a better safety profile, maintaining the same benefits not apparent contraceptive recorded for the higher dosages. The new progestin, drospirenone presents an anti-mineralocorticoid with diuretic effect. The use of new routes of administration of hormones as the contraceptive transdermal, intra-vaginal, subcutaneous implantation or combined with the intrauterine device came facilitate adherence to method and reduce errors and omissions by failure of the test. But not abolished abandoning the method most frequently in the first year of use. The main reason is the irregularity of cycle with intermittent blood loss with amenorreias sometimes prolonged, with more frequent with progestin only contraception. The changes are attributed to inadequate endometrial proliferation, which, weakened, peels off partially. The treatment involves the temporary administration of estrogen.Downloads
