The importance of early screening for dental caries

Dental caries, periodontal abreast of, a highly prevalent disease that affects almost all people, regardless of race, gender, age or social status, and therefore considered by WHO as a serious public health problem . A pair of appropriate preventive measures, assumes increasing importance diagnosis of the disease in its early stages. The purpose of this article is to highlight the importance of early diagnosis of dental caries. From a literature review, conducted in Medline, the authors are addressing several issues related to the disease. Proceeds to the description of the etiology of dental caries, recalling the necessity of combining the three primary factors, namely the susceptibility the host microflora and the environment, for a given period of time, so that it manifests itself. Understanding the pathophysiology of the disease has prompted changes to previous concepts of dental caries, which are explained by ionic exchanges that result in demineralization of the tooth and hard structures that are at the root of cavitation. Magazines are also various forms of expression of the disease, such as early childhood caries and cervical cavities, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, so that you can act on stages where a cavity is not yet established. Finally, it stressed the importance of information and guidance for patients with tooth decay. Conclusion: The importance of early detection is the possibility of avoiding cavitation damage and thus more easily control the disease. The family doctor can play a decisive role in guidance and referral of patients with dental caries.Downloads
