Abstract

Migraine is a classic clinical entity with well-defined characteristics, but also with some variability. Has a temporal profile paroxysmal, with episodes of varying frequency and duration, interspersed by periods completely asymptomatic. The prevalence of migraine headaches in adults is between 10% and 15%, with significant socioeconomic consequences. It accepts a higher prevalence of migraine in females, the ratio male: female is, according to the studies, 1:2-3. The history of migraine usually starts in adolescents or young adults, and may arise in childhood. Boys and girls are equally affected, and the predominance of females only appears in adolescence. However, around 10% of cases migraine appears after 40 years. A first seizure after age 45, if possible, requires clinical investigation to exclude a symptomatic headache.
