What helps and what hinders a consultation

In general and family medicine, consultations judged «difficult» occur frequently; they impair health-care delivery and are a source of dissatisfaction both for the doctor and the patient. In this article we analyse the characteristics of the two protagonists that comprise a consultation and of the circumstances that may contribute for the surfacing of a difficult encounter; we also suggest strategies that may improve the communication between doctor and patient and the management of this type of consultations.Downloads
