Tobacco, Brief InterventionAbstract
It is essential that the family doctor be prepared to intervene with all tobacco users. If the smoker is motivated to quit, the physician must use the five components of a brief intervention (5 As) - ask, advise, assess, assist and arrange. For the patient unwilling to quit, a motivational counseling intervention is needed using the 5 Rs - relevance, risks, rewards, roadblocks and repetition. Brief treatment of tobacco dependence is effective. Family doctors have a key role to play in this area. This method must be spread and trained.Downloads
