Healthcare workers are at high risk of COVID-19 infection due to their professional exposure. To date, there is limited data and evidence on COVID-19 infections among healthcare workers in Portugal. We described the characteristics of healthcare workers reported as confirmed cases of COVID-19 during the first months of the national surveillance in Portugal (January-May 2020). We conclude with recommendations to improve surveillance of COVID-19 among the health workforce.
