Professor Isabel Santos determined the direction of the specialty of General and Family Medicine in Portugal. Few people have thought of such drastic changes, so based on the foundations of the specialty: undergraduate and graduate training, continuing education, and research. Her mentoring resulted in hundreds of disciples, including students, interns, specialists, doctoral students, senior researchers, leaders, and those responsible for health organizations and public policies. Due to its direct and indirect action, we now have more doctors in Portugal, especially more family doctors.
