Abstract

Based on the Leeuwenhorst definition of General Practitioners, as well as on the proposals of Olesen and others for re-defining the GPs professional profile, the author firstly discusses three action models for 21st century family doctors - a clinical, a management, and a civic model. In Part II, the author presents five emergent attributes and five essential skills which characterise and provide an activity framework for the primary care medical professional.
