Abstract

Accessibility to primary health care is discussed in relation to the results from part one of a research project developed by Minho University in a partnership with Braga Health Authority from April 1999 to October 2001. This project mainly aimed to thoroughly list all private and public health units in two counties (Guimaraes and Cabeceiras de Basto) of the Braga district, and assess the corresponding degree of accessibility of the local populations. Some aspects pertaining to the physical, structural and functional dimensions of accessibility are discussed. It was concluded that physical accessibility to health care is less satisfactory in Cabeceiras de Basto than in Guimaraes.
