The challenge of comorbidity for health services

In this opinion article, the author describes the role of family physicians (MF) in the management of comorbid conditions and the impact of these situations in clinical practice and health services. The importance of the role of MF in the management of multiple health problems, which exist simultaneously in the same individual, derives the characteristics of the type of care, global, continuous and centered on the person and not the disease, and places, these professionals, several challenges everyday, either within or under the clinical care management. For the author, the efficient management of comorbid chronic diseases in addition to being connected to the patients and physicians, is also linked to the type of organization and direction of health care. Thus, it criticizes the lack of attention paid to this phenomenon enormous impact on job performance and services.Downloads
