Abstract

Objectives: To assess the diabetic patients accessibility, acceptability and satisfaction with care provided by the health team. Type of Study: Quality assessment. Setting: Ermesinde Health Centre (HC) Diabetes Unit. Population: Patients from the Diabetes Unit. A convenience sample was collected with 46 diabetes mellitus patients who were 16 years of age or older, and who had been with the Unit for at least one year. Methods: A 45-item questionnaire was used. The following quality dimensions were studied: acceptability, accessibility, and satisfaction with the team. Results: Accessibility - the following criteria were achieved: distance to HC, time spent at HC, access to GP and nurse; the following criteria were not achieved: money spent with transportation, physical ease of access to surgery (6/8 criteria met the standards). Acceptability - the following criteria were achieved: distance to HC, time spent at HC, comfort, cleanliness of premises, access to GP and nurse; the following criterion was not achieved: money spent with transportation (6/8 criteria met the standards). Satisfaction - the following criteria were achieved: dealing with the patients problems whenever the doctor or the nurse are not in, the doctors and the nurses personal qualities, time availability from health professionals, concern shown by the doctor and the nurse (8/9 met the standards). Conclusions: From the patients point of view, their health care providers show good levels of acceptability, accessibility, and satisfaction.
