The complexity of comorbidity

Abstract

It is customary terms patients with multiple health problems simultaneously. In daily clinical practice, the GP adapts to the coexistence of various problems in the same patient. However, despite knowing many types of disease associations and to recognize the different types of implications of this coexistence, has no instruments that quantify your weight, to help you have a more efficient and clinical approach that will facilitate the coordination of various types of care. The patient, meanwhile, does not have the means or instruments direccionem the path of autonomy and empowerment. This article highlights several implications of comorbidity: explains different types of action in clinical practice, explains the lack of means for their efficient management, describes several measures of comorbidity and suggests the need for Primary Health Care and Family Medicine for directing to an organizational model of patient care centered on various chronic diseases simultaneously.
